Wednesday, December 21st
Miss Lilley's Class is going SKATING!  Please send your child with their skates and a helmet on this day.  If they need to BORROW skates, please let Miss Lilley know as soon as possible, so we can arrange to borrow skates for your child.  We do have some skates and some helmets at the school...but there are many other children that may need to borrow as well.  We will do our absolute best to accommodate each child, with enough notice!

On Wednesday, December 21st, our class will be going skating at ATB Centre from 12:45-1:45pm.  We will be leaving the school at 12:30pm and back by 2:00ish (we may leave the ice a little early to ensure we are back for the bell).  We are looking for parent drivers to help out with this field trip.

Thank you to the parents of Onyx, Donovan, Walker, Addy, Zoe, Jensen, Astrid, Avery, Ronin, Blake and Lyncoln who have offered to come and drive, and/ or supervise on this day!! If you would like to join us and you are not on this list, please contact me through Class Dojo, or by emailing me at: robyn.lilley@lethsd.ab.ca.

Families are also welcome to come and skate, as well.  As per district policy, ALL students must wear a CAA approved hockey helmet.  Bike helmets are NOT permitted.  There are extra helmets available at the arena.  If your child is in need of skates, please let Miss Lilley know!

When we return from Skating, we will be doing some Christmas Cookie Decorating!  Thank you to the following parents for offering to bring supplies for this.  FYI: We have 24 students in the class.

Sugar cookies:  (2 dozen) - Harrison
Gingerbread cookies:  (2 dozen) - Kamrynn
Icing/ decorations: Katie, Anna, Ako, Zoe
Hot Chocolate: Zoe
cups and plates: Avery

Thursday, December 22nd
  • We are caroling in the morning, and we are having our spirit Day and Spirit Assembly.  During this time we will also have our monthly recognition ceremony.  We are encouraging students to "Dress like Christmas".
  • In the EVENING of Thursday, December 22nd, we are having a PAJAMA-FRIENDLY Caroling Night from 6-7pm in the MMH gym.  We will sing old fashioned Christmas Carols with piano accompaniment from 6-6:45 and then enjoy a cookie and hot chocolate in the foyer unil 7pm.  Bring your littles in their pajamas to enjoy a fun Christmas filled evening the whole family can enjoy!

Friday, December 23rd
  • LAST day before Christmas Holidays.  Caroling in the gym at 8:30am.  All parents are welcome!  The Grade 2s will be having a Christmas Dance Party in the gym today.  Children may choose to wear crazy hair, pajamas, ugly Christmas sweaters, or Christmas colours if they wish!!  It is up to them!

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all the parents who have offered to bring snacks for our party on Friday, December 23rd:

Wishing you and your families a beautiful, safe, and relaxing summer!  We had such an awesome year and I am going to miss all my students next year when they are in grade three!

Thank you to all the parents who have helped out with various events this year.  Volunteering in one way or another - either in the classroom, by driving to fieldtrips, supervising, or helping out with various projects.  I really appreciate all your support and I have enjoyed getting to know you and your children this year.  Happy Summer to you!!

Please remind your child to dress in his/ her assigned colour t-shirt to indicate which team they are on that day.  They should also wear comfortable runners (no sandals or flip flop shoes).  Students should bring a water bottle and be ready to be outside for most of the day!

If there are any parents who are interested in volunteering next Tuesday, please let me know.  We would love to have you join us, and we are in need of some parent helpers to run our session, and to help supervise.

Hello Parents!

Next week is June already! We can hardly believe it!

We have a VERY busy week next week, and we could use your help with some events.

A newsletter was sent home yesterday, but in case you missed it, here is all the information again.

Upcoming Events in Miss Lilley’s Class
·        Monday, May 30th from 12:45-1:45pm we will be building our boats.  Please send your child with materials to build a boat if you haven’t already done so. We will NOT have enough materials to supply each child.  It would be really handy if some parents could join us on that day to help in the class.  It would be WONDERFUL if parents could please bring in some hot glue guns and perhaps some extra duct tape on this day!!  The goal is for us to be able to float our boats successfully across Nicholas Sheran Lake in a few weeks!
·       Wednesday June 1st from 12:45-3:05
We will have “Scientists in Schools” in Miss Lilley’s Class!  We are looking for about 5 parent volunteers who can assist with the centres on this day in the classroom.  Please let me know if you can come spend the afternoon with us!
·       Thursday, June 2nd from 12:45-2:15pm is our trip to SAAG!  Arts Alive and Well in the Schools is an exhibit that features work from students in Lethbridge. Parent drivers are needed.  We will leave at 12:30 and return to school at 2:30.  This is always really fun.
·        Friday, June 10th from 1-2 we will be swimming at Nicholas Sheran Pool.  Thank you to the parent drivers who have already offered to drive and help supervise!
Our K-2 Sports Day is on June 16th.  Please keep an eye out for more information coming regarding our boat launch.  These days are scheduled with hope of good weather.  Alternate days will be scheduled if necessary.
We are looking for volunteers for both of those events.  Thank you in advance.

thank you,
Miss Lilley

Fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society
During the first week back after Easter, Mike Mountain Horse will be working on raising funds for Canadian Cancer Society. Perhaps you will see some family over the Easter break. We will be doing a cancer walk and we are asking our students to collect from family to help with our goal of raising $3000.00 for cancer research. Our beloved Mrs. Wik from preschool will have her head shaved at an assembly on April 19. Any students wishing to do the same are welcome to get a permission form from their teachers.

Easter Break
No school this Friday, March 24th, due to the Good Friday holiday.  Also no school next week from Monday March 28th - April 1st.  School will resume on April 4th, 2016.  Have a wonderful break.  Wishing you a restful and rejuvenating break whatever you and your family are doing.

Monday, February 29, 2016

This week we are focusing on the spelling word family "ore".  Please help your child practice their 10 chosen words at home as they will be tested on Friday.  Practicing word families is a great way to practice spelling, because once a child masters that word family, they can spell many many more words and make better "guesses" at words they don't know.  As a challenge, try to add to our word family list that went home in your child's agenda.

Happy Spelling!

Miss Lilley
Hello parents!

That time of year is coming up again...(yes, report card time!)  It is a great opportunity for you to come into the class and see all the wonderful things your child is learning and how they are growing and progressing!  It is also a great opportunity for us to get together to talk about your child's progress!

Please see the link to the Mike Mountain Horse School March Newsletter below:

file:///C:/Users/lilleyro/Downloads/MMH%20March%202016%20Newsletter%20and%20Calendar.pdf

I will be sending a letter home tomorrow in your child's agenda letting you know about our celebration of learning and about parent teacher interviews.

Looking forward to connecting with you all soon!

Miss Lilley
