The Angel Tree Project
(We will accepting gifts in the school this week and also in the foyer at the MMH Christmas GALA on the evening of Thursday, December 11th from 5:30-7:30pm)
MMH is Caring & Sharing!
As a school-wide service project again this year, we are encouraging the students of MMH to consider donating to those less fortunate in our community. We will be collecting both unwrapped Christmas gifts and gift cards for families in need until Thursday, December 11th. Gifts will be donated to the Angel Tree project, and some may also be delivered to the local shelter for women & children and to new immigrants to our city, depending on the need and response.
In order to personalize this project, you may consider having your child choose something appropriate for a child of their own age & gender in our city who may not receive any gifts for Christmas if it were not for our choice to share & provide for those less fortunate than ourselves. Gifts for both genders, from birth to age 18, are most welcome.
Because younger children are chosen more often from the trees around the city, there is aparticular need for gift cards for older children – Park Place Mall, Walmart, Chapters, Best Buy, EB Games, iTunes, Ardene & Claire`s, Bert & Macs/Sport Chek, and we are also gratefully accepting grocery store & department store gift cards to help provide families with delicious & nutritious holiday food and warm clothing. Of course, gifts for the parents of these families would also be helpful – often requested are gifts cards for Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Walmart, Starbucks/Tim Hortons etc. Special requests received from many children include Lego (6-14 years), Art & Craft sets (3-18 years), Pokémon cards, action figures/super heroes, makeup kits/nail polish, Frozen themed toys and warm pajamas & winter clothing.
**You do not need to pick an angel from a tree for this project.
Simply drop off your unwrapped gift and/or any gift cards to your child’s teacher or to Mrs. Baker
(in room 22 across from the office) by December 11th.
Thank you in advance for any support you are able to provide us for this valuable project.
Happy Holidays!

Happy Friday Everyone!
This week was an extremely busy week in 2C!
Happy Birthday River! River was our Star Student today, and she also celebrated her 7th birthday earlier in the week. I always learn new and interesting things about students on their star student day when they show and share items that are important to them, as well as give a presentation on themselves. We have such a special class, and I love learning more about their likes and interests, as well as learning about their families, hobbies, and places they have visited.
We attended a Remembrance Day Assembly in the gym this morning and it ran so smoothly. I was so proud of all the students who came into the gym so quietly and listened attentively to the presentation. It is important to remember the brave men and women who fought and served for our country and who continue to serve. In our classroom this week we had a great discussion about what it means to be Canadian and why we are proud of our country.
There are a few very important dates coming up for November:
December 11—Christmas Gala
December 12-Star Student Marah!
Have a wonderful well-deserved long weekend everyone! See you again on Wednesday, November 12th.

Happy Chocolate Day!
We are celebrating Grade 2 Chocolate Day at Mike Mountain Horse!
As many of you know I participated in a teaching exchange to Australia in 2012! I had lots of fun and adventures during this time abroad. Here are some pictures of my journey! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them. Travelling is a wonderful way to enjoy the world around us and to learn not only about other cultures, but more about our own culture as well!
While in Australia I participated in a straw bale house build project in New South Wales. As you can see I learned some new skills!
Wow. Be careful!
The students at Lake Albert Public School wear a uniform every day! Here they are all squished into their "hall", which we would call a gym here in Canada.
Pen Pal Project. The students were SO excited to receive a pen pal letter from their Canadian friend. My exchange partner and I had paired our kids up for this project. It was priceless, as you can see!
Reading in my Australian back yard in my new hammock. Loving this lifestyle!
A new friend at the straw bale house build project!
Kangaroo!
East Coast of Australia, south of Sydney, NSW.
Kangaroo!
Happy Australia Day!
Local park right by my house!
Heading to a swimming event for the school!
Swimming competition.
Having fun at the pool!
Peacock at the local park.
These pumpkin grew voluntarily in our garden! What a nice surprise. Delicious!
Look at all this produce! I became part of a veggie swap in the community. Every week I would meet with other community members and we would share what we grew in our own gardens!
Here I am with another exchange teacher who was also teaching in Australia.
She was in another town, but we became friends and visited each other throughout the year!
Wagga Wagga, NSW during the great flood of 2012.
Flooding was extensive. This picture was taken one day before the flood completely covered this area by several metres! The people in the picture were displaced from their home because it was in the flood zone, and their home had literally become the river's new path. The flood completely destroyed everything.
Sporting match!
Learning how to water ski!
Eucalyptus Tree. (Also known as a gum tree.)
Shopping!
Rock climbing!
Relaxing!
Shopping at a local fruit and vegetable market!
Travelling in New Zealand on my holiday.

An assembly at school. Very packed in there with all the kids!
Yum! Enjoying a hot day at school!
Learning to play cricket. Well, actually I was just posing for this picture.
Australians sure love their sports and being active!
A family I met in Bali, Indonesia. They were so welcoming.

While teaching in Australia, I was able to take a vacation to beautiful Bali. These are some pictures of my trip to Bali, which is a beautiful island in Indonesia. I visited Bali in 2012. While I was there, I went to a cacao (or cocoa) plantation. On that farm they also bananas, coconuts, cinnamon, coffee, vanilla, and much much more! It was really exciting to see how these foods grow. It made me appreciate these products so much more!
There are also many pictures of life in Bali, from a tourist perspective. Many people drive motorcycles or scooters around, instead of cars. Enjoy the pictures, and while you are looking at the pictures, think about ways that Canada is the same and ways that it is different from Bali.
