Monday, October 20th, 2014

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and welcome back to another week in 2C!  This will be another short week, as we have staff learning days on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.  Students will be dismissed for the weekend on Thursday at 11:45am.

We have been busy in the classroom creating lots of Fall/Autumn art lately.  We have our Art room time combined with Mrs. Fahey's class, and we all just love creating beautiful art projects together!

With Halloween coming up we were planning to carve pumpkins this week, but due to a severe pumpkin allergy in grade 2 we have decided NOT to carve pumpkins this year.  At the beginning of the year I originally asked parents to send a pumpkin to school tomorrow (October 21st) so that we could do the carving, but this plan has changed.  Sorry to any parents who this may have inconvenienced.  I hope that if you have already purchased a pumpkin, you can find something lovely to create with it.  I would suggest carving it or making a delicious pumpkin soup or dessert out of it.  Here are links to some absolutely delicious pumpkin recipes I hope you enjoy!

Home Reading Program:
Students will be receiving one or two books to read each week.  This will be from the Reading A-Z collection.  They should read one of these books EACH night.  Books will be given out on Monday or Tuesday of each week, and will be due back on Friday.  Repetition helps children with fluency, and if your child tells you they have already read that particular book, simply remind them that reading it again helps develop mastery.

Raz-Kids Reading Program (Online)
More information regarding Raz-kids is coming soon!  The grade 2 classes expect to hear about our class subscriptions shortly, and we will be sending out the student codes as soon as that happens.  More info to come.

Halloween Dress Up and Party
Halloween is on Friday, October 31st this year, and we are excited to announce that we will be having a classroom party on this day.  Please send your child to school WEARING their costume.  It is only a half day, so if they come dressed and ready for the day, then we can get right to our activities.  Thank you in advance for those parents who offered to bring snacks to the Halloween party.

Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Miss Lilley
