Week of October 6th, 2014 - Weekly Events:

We have a LOT going on this week!

I cannot believe how FAST this school year is going.  I am so pleased with our 2C class so far.  Students are showing a great deal of respect in the classroom and have improved at remembering the regular morning routines.  I have had to remind less and less children about putting their indoor shoes on and to read the board for the morning activity.  Students are helpful in the classroom and are excited about their classroom jobs!  We have such a lovely caring class, and I am so happy to be teaching grade 2 this year! There is a lot to be excited about this year…we have a lot of fabulous things to look forward to.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help out in the classroom.  Now that we have more of a routine and the weekly schedule has been through it's first few drafts, I am getting closer to having a regular schedule where I can have volunteers in the classroom to help with things such as the home reading program, and with helping to read to children in the classroom.  I will be contacting parents to ask for help in the next 2 weeks.  Thank you again for coming forward to volunteer your time!

Here are some activities coming up this week:

Wednesday, October 8th:
We will be making our very own class STONE SOUP!  Students volunteered to bring particular ingredients to add to our class homemade stone soup.  This letter went home today and should be in the front pocket of students' agendas.  Please check with your child to see what they offered to bring.  If the item that they chose is inconvenient for you, please feel free to substitute it for something else delicious that you think would go well in a vegetable soup!!

Thank you in advance for your help with this!!

Thursday, October 9th
We are going on a field trip to the Galt Gardens.  We will be taking the bus - leaving at 8:45am.  Thank you to the parents who offered to come and help volunteer to supervise.  You are welcome to join us on the bus, but unfortunately, our insurance does not cover little siblings, so if you have other "little people" that you are responsible for, they are welcome to come as well, but feel free to drive to Galt Gardens and we will meet you there at 9am.  Thank you in advance for offering to come out to help supervise!

Friday, October 10th
The children have been practicing a "Stone Soup" Performance piece for the past 2 weeks.  You are welcome to come see this performance on Friday, October 10th from 9-9:30am in the Music Room.  It is completely optional, and is a fun celebration of learning.  Hope you can come!! It will be a fun way to wrap up the school week, and have you come in to see what your child has been doing in Music.

As always, it is expected that all children are reading every night for at least 20-30 minutes or more.  Also, please practice the basic Math facts with your child.  Children should be fluent in the addition and subtraction facts up to 5 + 5 and 5 - 5 to this point.

Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,

Miss Lilley
